A recent GSA press release identifies that in order to launch RedCap, operators must first have a 5G standalone network. As of February 2025, 154 operators in 63 countries are investing in 5G standalone.

The GSA now feels the time is right to “…bring together leading telecommunications companies wishing to track, boost and promote the ecosystem for 5G RedCap network deployments, connected IoT devices, FWA devices and service launches.”

A new group - GSA RedCap SIG – is formed to further the promotion of RedCap-enabled products via the GSA website and databases. GSA is also providing a Research Team to contribute regular industry reports and webinars on the global status of the technology.
