Connecting Beyond Technology - In support of Hospice Malta

May 21, 2025

This week’s 3GPP Working Group meetings in Malta were not ‘all work and no play’. Particularly, after the close of the RAN group meetings on Wednesday, May 21, when over 250 participants walked, ran and marshalled for the benefit of a super charity – Hospice Malta, an NGO on the island providing free palliative care services to patients and families facing serious illness.

Our 3GPP fun run in the sun took place in the historically important Pembroke Natura 2000 parklands. Our sincere thanks go to the local Pembroke council, Nature Trust Malta and the ambulance service - for their permission and participation. We also thank the Armed Forces of Malta, for permission to use their grounds and for not holding army manoeuvres on the day!

During the week-long WG RAN meetings a total of €6715 (27/5 - now risen to over €7100) was collected for the hospice, as delegates again showed that these gatherings are about strengthening human connections – inside and outside the room.

In settings around the world our meetings are increasingly taking the opportunity to connect professionally and personally, with each other and with the local communities that welcome us.

Sometimes 3GPP delegates get together for social, cultural and sports events and occasionally we manage to run for a good cause. As in the past, in Athens, Vienna, Sophia Antipolis, Toulouse and now in Pembroke Natura 2000 in Malta - 3GPP delegates have contributed and taken joy from giving something back.

Thanks to everyone who attended and those that contributed to this great event.
