MCC Support Team

From time to time there are vacancies within the Mobile Competence Centre support team, based at the ETSI headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France.

There is an open vacancy for: DIRECTOR OF THE MOBILE COMPETENCE CENTRE (MCC), Based in Sophia-Antipolis, French Riviera.


The Director of the Mobile Competence Centre (MCC) will be the line manager for MCC personnel and will perform the role of 3GPP Specifications Manager.

The Director of the MCC assumes a management level position that includes the following key responsibilities:

  • Drive and manage the support of 3GPP standardization activities for all 3GPP groups under MCC responsibility
  • Liaise with the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and others in the Secretariat to enable the future development of 3GPP's activities in both existing and new groups
  • Develop regular reports on the progress and evolution of 3GPP, its membership, and its products
  • Manage the evolution of 3GPP working practices (3GPP Working Procedures, TSG Working Procedures, Drafting Rules, …)
  • Ensure mechanisms are in place to maintain the correctness of data contained in the underlying databases
  • Coordinate, develop and prioritise the requests for improvement and feed to IT services for development and implementation
  • Ensure quality of work in all MCC activities

The Director of the Mobile Competence Centre (MCC) will report to Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and will manage a team of 18 people.


  • Thorough knowledge of 3GPP working methods
  • PC literate and fully conversant with Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Project)
  • Good understanding of databases and of internet technologies
  • Good global awareness and experience of working in a multicultural environment
  • Have a good eye for fine detail
  • Adequate knowledge of 3GPP technologies (probably requiring at least Bachelor level qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline)
  • Resolute but sympathetic management skills at both the personal and the operational level (probably requiring a postgraduate management qualification)
  • Confident communication and interpersonal skills
  • Automomous and self-starting character
  • Excellent English language skills, both oral and written
  • The assigned missions involve travelling in France and abroad

This is a most exciting challenge requiring high levels of inter-personal skills and energy to support the Mobile Competence Centre activities. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, results-oriented team player who will demonstrate the ability to contribute to the development of 3GPP's activities both existing and new in a competitive international environment.

MCC Task Forces

There are occasionally calls for experts for Mobile Competence Centre Task Forces, based at the ETSI headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France. For these vacancies it is expected that experts will be seconded by their employers for the duration of the appointment, which ranges typically from a few weeks to one year.
