Basavaraj Pattan of 3GPP Working Group SA6 has been presented with the 2018 3GPP Excellence Award for his work on Mission Critical Data and a Common API Framework for 3GPP Northbound APIs (CAPIF).

MCData is the next major standard after the completion of push-to-talk for mission critical applications and CAPIF is set to be a key enabler for communicating with higher-level components of the network.

Both features have been skilfully kept in-line with the objectives set out by the group - thanks to Basavaraj’s dedication and commitment to getting these specifications approved – on time within the Release 15 schedule.

The Excellence Award is 3GPP's annual recognition process for outstanding contributions to the technical work in the groups. A maximum of four may be awarded each year – which makes it a scarce and valued prize.
