Von: van der Arend Peter [p.c.j.vanderarend@KPN.COM] Gesendet: Freitag, 15. November 2002 10:41 An: LI@LIST.ETSI.FR Betreff: early decision on CR035 to TS 101 671 (01litd021). Wichtigkeit: Hoch Dear All, In our meeting in Dublin we have discussed CR035 on "Coding of ASN.1 parameters of the type OCTET STRING" (from Manfred) (01litd021). The conclusion was that there might be different implementation and delegates were requested to check the issue at home. The CR was postponed until our next meeting in March 2003. However, this week 3GPP SA3-LI has had a meeting and I have received the request to speed-up the discussion on CR035. It is the intention of SA3-LI to include this information in Release 5 at the end of this year. The proposed text in CR035 as explanation of the treatment of bits in a defined "OCTET STRING" is: For the ASN.1 parameters of the type 'OCTET STRING', the ordering of the individual halfoctets of each octet shall be such that the most significant halfoctet is put into bitposition 5 - 8 and the least significant halfoctet into bitposition 1 - 4. This general rule shall not apply when parameter formats are imported from other standards, e.g. an E.164 number coded according to ISUP [48]. In this case the ordering of the halfoctet shall be according to that standard and not be changed. Since we have seen and discussed this CR already in Dublin, I am requesting you to give an early reaction. Can you please send me your opinion on this CR before the 12th of December. I will inform SA3-LI on our opinion of CR035. Formal approval of CR035 will take place at our TC LI#02 meeting in March 2003.
