Within the 3GPP Technical Specification Group Service and System Aspects (TSG SA), the main objectives of 3GPP TSG SA WG3 (SA3) includes defining the requirements and specifying the architectures and protocols for security and privacy in 3GPP systems.

SA3 also ensures the availability of cryptographic algorithms which need to be part of the specifications. Within SA3, the sub-working group SA3-LI provides the requirements and specifications for lawful interception in 3GPP systems.

SA3 is currently responsible for security in the 5G System including the 3GPP enhancements for IoT and vertical industries. Furthermore, since the introduction of the 5G System, SA3 has been developing the security requirements and test cases for network equipment implementing any of the new 5G Network Functions.
