After finalizing my Dr./PhD in the area of RF
Engineering, Antenna Design and Electromagnectic Compatibility, I joined the
Siemens AG in Germany in
1997 starting with standardization of GSM data services in ETSI SMG4.
With the growing effort of standardizing 3rd generation mobile
commmunication systems I joined the UMTS standardization community in July
1998, at first ETSI SMG2 L1.
Afterwards, I worked for 3GPP TSG RAN WG1, WG2, WG4 and WG3 respectively
(1-2 years in each group), especially with focus on measurements, Radio
Resource Management aspects and Location Services/UE positioning.
In connection with my TSG RAN WG4 activities I was also rapporteur for one
of the Harmonised European Standards for IMT-2000 in ETSI MSG/TFES.
From May 2002 until January 2004, I worked for the ETSI Mobile Competence
Centre (MCC) in Sophia Antipolis as contracted expert of the Siemens AG in
order to support 3GPP TSG RAN WG3.
From February 2004 onwards, I led the RAN WG1 standardisation team and
activities of the Siemens AG with interesting topics like e.g. HSDPA
enhancements, MBMS, EDCH/HSUPA, CPC (as rapporteur) and UMTS LTE.
In April 2007, the mobile network business of the Siemens AG was transferred
into the Nokia Siemens Networks GmbH & Co. KG (NSN) and I supported
especially mobility and measurement aspects of UMTS LTE.
Apart from several international publications and patents, I am holding
lectures on radio and system aspects of mobile communication systems at the
Technical University of Berlin.
In December 2007, I left NSN and from January 2008 onwards I will have the
pleasure to support 3GPP TSG RAN WG2 as a technical officer of the ETSI
Mobile Competence Centre (MCC).
